Basically I'm offering you insight for my experience as a musician. Most of my products were developed as a result of "what if" and "why can't I?" perspective on different musical situations. My products are simple and non-theory based. I figured that most people have learned music from a theory perspective, so I'm really promoting the other half, which is not theory-based. If you've read this far, then I'll offer you this. This is probably the most valuable info I can offer you from all of my years as a musician. Here it is: Build your foundation on theory, once it's solid, forget it (so to speak) and only concentrate on hearing, ear-playing, and your creative bass expression (tone, techniques, grooves, etc.). This may not apply to you, but I'm constantly burdened by a poor foundation. So now, I feel, it takes me longer to progress, because I have to constantly unlearn things tied to the basics. Someone once told me that practice does not make perfect... it's perfect practice that makes perfect. Now, identifying what perfect practice is subjective & hard to do, but there's no doubt that practicing in a way that may potentially hinder you is counter-productive. While I'm on the topic, I must also mention creativity. Please don't limit yourself to copying others when you can spend time creating your own. I've seen/heard too many musicians who had great chops... they were talking loud, but had nothing to say. I don't want to be judge mental, people have may different reasons why they do something.. but, now that you're aware of it, why not? Develop your own musical expression and say something.
